We are able to cater for special dietary (vegetarian and diabetic) whilst keeping the emphasis on good home cooking and fresh produce.Residents are welcome to bring their own personal items of furniture, (which must conform to fire regulations) ornaments etc., and their visitors may be entertained in their own room where they have complete privacy.

Hot and cold water supplies are provided in the wash hand basins in the resident’s rooms, and ample toilet and specialist bathing facilities are available.

Smoke detectors and emergency lighting systems have been installed to ensure the safety of all residents and have been approved by the Fire Department.

Newspaper deliveries can be arranged. Charges are borne by the resident.

A qualified chiropodist calls every six weeks, charges borne by the resident.

A qualified hairdresser attends weekly, charges are borne by the resident.

Opticians call annually. Charges are borne by the resident.

Dentist visits available on request. Charges are borne by the resident.

A panel of doctors attend to all residents medical needs. Residents are able to choose their own GP with whom we liase closely.

There are a selection of paperback books and library books also available in large print if required.

We operate a keyworker system whereby all residents have a member of staff as their keyworker. The S.C.A. will devise and maintain a care plan with the resident. The S.C.A. and the keyworker review the care plan on a regular basis, and six monthly reviews are held with the family.

For those wishing to participate we have regular entertainers who perform at the home, and daily activities provided to include music and exercise, crafts, games and bingo sessions.

Respite care can also be undertaken enabling relatives to go on holiday for those who care for elderly persons in their own homes or who may have to go into hospital, to have a peace of mind knowing that the elderly person is being properly cared for in their absence. The minimum period for this service is not less than one week and is subject to the availability of rooms.

Whitehaven has a “No Smoking ” policy inside the building.
